On October 3, 2026,
former top-division sumo wrestler Hidenoumi
will hold his official Danpatsu-shiki (Topknot-Cutting Ceremony) at the iconic Ryogoku Kokugikan, the spiritual home of professional sumo.
A Danpatsu-shiki is one of the most significant traditions in professional sumo. During the ceremony, the wrestler's chonmage (topknot), worn throughout his career, is ceremonially cut by family members, mentors, supporters, and distinguished guests, before the final cut is made by his stablemaster.
It marks the end of a wrestler's competitive career and the beginning of a new chapter in life.
This special event is far more than a retirement ceremony.
Guests will enjoy a full day celebrating Japanese sumo culture, including:
- A ceremonial ring-entering procession featuring active sekitori wrestlers from Kise Stable
- Exhibition bouts by current professional sumo wrestlers
- Hidenoumi's ceremonial final bout
- The traditional Danpatsu-shiki (Topknot-Cutting Ceremony)
- A farewell speech by Hidenoumi
- Traditional Japanese chanko cuisine and special activities around the venue
Whether you are a lifelong sumo fan or experiencing the sport for the first time, this is a rare opportunity to witness one of sumo's most meaningful traditions, an event that takes place only once in a wrestler's lifetime.
We look forward to welcoming guests from around the world to celebrate this unforgettable day together.
